Acupressure massage is my personal approach to help recover from your chronic pain. I like to use a combination of techniques I learned over the years: Thai Acupressure massage , Trigger points therapy , Osteopathy and Myofascial release.
Muscles, tendons, vocal folds, and all of your other body parts have their limits. If you regularly play musical instruments, sing, do sports, and have bad posture, injuries can occur. Repeating the same movements over your life is hard on the body and can cause conditions like the frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, lower back pain, piriformis syndrome, and other chronic troubles that prevent you from having a normal and pain free life.
The Acupressure Massage I offer is a preventative and curative approach to health and some of the many benefits from a session include:
- relieve pain caused by arthritis or tight joint
- enhance flexibility and range of motion
- promote good posture and balance
- elongate muscles
- help detoxify the body
- increase mental clarity, concentration, and calm the mind
- stimulate the immune system and healing
- soothe chronic stress
Besides that, I am able to advise you about the types of exercise you could do to maintain the balance found after the massage treatment.
Traditional Thai Massage is a full body massage which incorporates acupressure and yoga stretches. You many find it at bit unusual because you will remain fully clothed during the treatment while lying down on a futon. In Asia the Thai Massage is considered a therapeutic treatment for many conditions because precise and direct pressure is applied to key nerve points which enables your muscles to fully relax and releases any tension in your body. Besides focusing on these key pressure points where tension is concentrated, I massage the whole body, as the energy channels (nerves) in your body run everywhere and are interconnected. I also like to combine Asian techniques with the Western knowledge like Osteopathy and Trigger Points Therapy which together are very effective at relieving chronic pain.
My treatments can be slighly painful but I am always very careful, attentive, and apply pressure according to your needs and limits. I use the same accuracy when I apply the gentle yoga stretch techniques. I only move onto more advanced streches when I feel, with your agreement, that you are ready. Besides the treatment, I will give you exercises you can do on your own to keep the balance and benefits you have gained from the massage.
Come and try, I promise you will wish to come sooner!
Memories associated with the original insult to the tissues will tend to store in a holding pattern in that area facilitating the dysfunction. During a therapeutic massage session, those memories will begin to release. It is necessary for you as the patient to be present with these changes and be willing to let them go or the body will not be ready to let go of the holding patterns. Know that you are in a safe place. Tears, vocalizations and other spontaneous body movements are natural and necessary to heal. You may not be aware of why you feel a certain way or why your body feels the need to move in a certain pattern.
Just trust your body to take over and know that it will never injure itself as you re-experience a memory, consciously or unconsciously. The safer you feel, the more aware you are and the more your trust your body, the greater the effect you will experience.
Acupressure massage is relaxing and stimulating for the mind and body, traditionally used as preventative treatment to enhance wellbeing through stress relief and boosting energy levels. It is based on the simple power of touch and research has shown that the benefits are physical, emotional, and physiological.
Blood is a major transport system within the body. It distributes oxygen and nutrients to cells, which is the fuel for all the chemical activities in the body. Therapeutic massage causes the blood vessels to dilate. This improves the flow of arterial blood from the heart enabling more oxygen and nutrients to the cells. The blood flow to the heart is also improved so the removal rate of metabolic waste is increased. These factors allow the cells to operate at optimum efficiency.
Toxins are not only produced by the body but can enter through diet and environmental factors. The lymphatic system is a network of glands, tubes and vessels designed to remove viruses, bacteria and draining unwanted fluid and materials from the body. Directed pressure improves the circulation of the lymphatic system, helping to improve immunity and cell function.
Less Aches and Pains
Massage therapy stimulates the nerve ending in the skin by activating A-beta receptors. This interrupts the C-fibres which carry the signals of pain from the nociceptors. Massage therapy affects the nervous system through nerve endings in the skin, stimulating the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers.
Acupressure Massage can be effective in stimulating weak, inactive muscles and therefore partially compensate for a lack of exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It eases tense and knotted muscles and breaks up adhesions. This massage is especially effective at improving joint mobility and flexibility, through manipulations. When muscles become overworked, certain harmful metabolic and cellular waste may accumulate in the muscles causing soreness, which can be removed by massage.
Endorphins are the body’s natural ‘feel good’ chemicals, not only do they reduce pain but they help to induce relaxation and reduce levels of stress chemicals such as cortisol and noradrenalin. Also blood pressure can be reduced due to blood vessel dilation. This relaxation can promote deeper sleep and aid treatment for insomnia.
